When Part 107 rules were put into effect in 2016, this ushered in the first-ever commercial use of UAS in the United States. The number and nature of applications to which professionals and enthusiasts have discovered and applied these technologies has been nothing short of astounding. And the growth rate and pace of innovation is still increasing. As with most new technological bursts of innovation, much is lost and gained when practitioners don't understand the rules, technology, limitations, or business models. The MAPPS session will present a series of discussions from geospatial firms that have been deploying UAS for mapping purposes throughout the country, and in the global market, and will present the good, the bad, and the ugly of real applications of drones for remote sensing and mapping applications.

Women are welcome to join us on Tuesday afternoon for a series of roundtable discussions about your experiences, challenges and great successes in this growing market.

Join us for unique and inspirational conversations and walk out of the meeting ready to expand your network!

Following introductions, the Women of Commercial Drones program will start with a 20-minute discussion around STEM, mentorship and related topics, moderated by discussion leaders at each table. We’ll focus on how we can inspire younger generations to get into this industry, how we work together to mentor each other and share opportunities, and how we can encourage each other individually to be more successful.

Attendees will then switch tables for the opportunity to interact with even more participants.

The next 20 minutes will focus on a call to action around the broader picture of women in technology. How do we encourage our organizations to be more diverse and more inclusive of women through hiring or women’s groups? How do women work together more publicly to break the glass ceiling and provide support outside of their individual networks? How do women work with organizations to leverage our messages for broader purpose?

Each table host will briefly present the key takeaways from their discussions and participants can continue with less structured networking at a reception immediately following.

Admission to this workshop is included with your Drone World Expo conference pass but you must RSVP to dawn@jdevents.com to attend.
