Director of Education, DJI North America
Romeo Durscher is Director of Education at DJI, the world’s leading maker of unmanned aerial vehicles. Born and raised in Switzerland, Romeo came to DJI after 13 years of working at NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory where he did project management, education and public outreach including social media. He’s an industry expert advising and educating first responders, humanitarian organizations, industries, governments and individuals on the beneficial use, incorporation and safe integration of DJI hardware and software to their missions.
The past 24 months Romeo has worked on various first responder and humanitarian projects to gain insight into the needs and challenges of fire fighters, search and rescue personnel, and humanitarian organizations. Romeo has actively participated in training, as well as real-life, search and rescue scenarios, has used drones during live fire training exercises, has observed first responder processes, and has worked with humanitarian organizations on collecting pre and post-disaster data by means of drone.
Romeo has been leading the DJI partnership with EENA (the European Emergency Number Association) and together DJI and EENA selected four pilot test sites in Europe; Donegal Mountain Search and Rescue in Ireland, Greater Copenhagen Fire Department, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue, and Search and Rescue Reykjavik, Iceland. Through these test sites DJI platforms got tested, incidents in which these drones were deployed got logged, challenges were noted and discussed, and solutions got integrated and tested. A White Paper was written and was released through DJI and EENA in November 2016.
Romeo continuous to speak at conferences, hosts workshops and teaches classes around the world. He’s made appearances on shows from ABC’s Good Morning America to CNBC’s Squawk Box and had work published in WIRED, Rotor Drone Magazine, Shutterbug and more.
